João Fonseca avança às quartas na Basileia após desistência de Mensik

Tcheco abandona o torneio por lesão no pé, e brasileiro iguala melhor campanha em ATP 500
O brasileiro João Fonseca está nas quartas de final do ATP 500 da Basileia, na Suíça, sem precisar entrar em quadra. Nesta quarta-feira (22), o tcheco Jakub Mensik desistiu da partida por causa de uma lesão no pé esquerdo, dando W.O ao carioca.
Com o resultado, Fonseca, de 19 anos e número 46 do ranking mundial, avança automaticamente e iguala seu melhor desempenho em torneios ATP 500. Ele aguardará agora o vencedor do confronto entre o canadense Denis Shapovalov (23º) e o francês Valentin Royer (69º), que se enfrentam nesta quinta-feira (23), em horário ainda a ser definido.
A próxima partida de João deve acontecer na sexta-feira (24). Fonseca e Mensik já haviam se enfrentado no ano passado, nas quartas de final do Next Gen Finals, torneio que reúne os melhores tenistas Sub-20 da temporada. Na ocasião, o brasileiro venceu por 3 sets a 2 e seguiu até conquistar o título.
